Upgrading Flat Sheet Based MBR Wastewater Treatment Plants
August 6, 2024
The use of flat sheet and hollow-fibre membranes for use in aerobic biological treatment has been one of the major innovations within the water industry over the last 25 years.
Significant advancements have been made in the design of these modules as well as manufacturing techniques. For example, many current designs have improved packing densities and reduced power demand associated with scouring.
Hydroflux has recently upgraded flat sheet MBR systems that were due for replacement of the existing modules, but rather than replace the modules with the exact same membrane pack a retrofit kit was installed that provides significant process advantages such as increased capacity due to high packing density, and a higher separation rate due to a tighter pore size.
Upgrade Works
- Upgrade of flat sheet MBR systems to more efficient systems
- Increased capacity via tighter packing density with increased surface area
- Replace micro filtration-based modules with ultra filtration
- Existing infrastructure in most cases can be reused
- Retrofit module is designed for easy integration into the existing process tanks
Ancillary Works
- Upgrade primary and secondary screening
- Diffuser and aeration blower upgrades
- Sludge processing review and upgrades
- Disinfection upgrade
- Turnkey solution with site mechanical and electrical works
