HUBER Inclined Screw Press – Two Decades of Application Knowledge

April 16, 2024

It was twenty years ago that the first HUBER Inclined Screw Press made its way into Australia as a part of pilot study on municipal and industrial sludge streams.

Since then, there are over 130 units in operation across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific.

“HUBER SPRESS® and QPRESS® have been installed in a wide variety of applications across the municipal and industrial sector. No-one else in Australia, New Zealand or the Pacific can match our installation base.

With twenty years of operating experience, we know exactly how the technology behaves – whether it’s a sewage treatment plant, abattoir, cheese factory, tunnelling operation, industrial manufacturer – we have the application knowledge in terms of sizing, performance and preventative maintenance.

In municipal plants we used have QPRESS® on activated sludge plants, Membrane Bioreactors (MBR), Moving Bed Bioreactors (MBBR), Anaerobically Digested Sludge, Aerobically Digested Sludge, WAS from granular aerobic sludge treatment and Drinking Water Sludge. For Industrial applications we have units operating on DAF floats, UASB Sludge, Aerobic Sludge and Clarifier underflows” says John Koumoukelis, CEO of Hydroflux.

QPRESS® is a mechanical sludge dewatering system that used to reduce the volume of liquid sludge that is produced in wastewater treatment. The technology is low speed, operating at under 1rpm as compared to high-speed centrifuges that operate at greater than 2800rpm.

The technology offers high performance as compared to high-speed alternatives, but with significant less energy demand, hence less associated carbon emissions. Maintenance is also less complicated, providing attractive life cycle benefit to end users.
